Pump-fed Filter System or Gravity-fed Filter System?

Will the filter be located above or at the height of the water level? The answer to this is important, because the maximum flow rates of a filter also depend on its installation type and location. Filters that are operated with a pump are often above the water level. Filters that use gravity are placed at the height of the water level.

Pump-fed Filter System

Gravity-fed Filter System

A pump-fed filter system uses a pump installed in the pond to actively pump the contaminated water into the filter system, where coarse and fine dirt particles are mechanically removed through the a drum’s sieve or fine mesh. The cleaned water then runs through biological filter stages and finally flows back into the pond.
